Diversity in fashion is no longer just a moral imperative, it's becoming a powerful business requirement in the 2020s.
In this feature documentary Niyati pairs with Paul G Roberts to examine diversity in the global fashion industry, and how a handful of courageous pioneers and agents for change have made a major impact in a space that in many ways defines what is considered beautiful, valuable and worthwhile in society.
The fashion industry has long been called out for cultural appropriation, racism, and blatant lack of diversity across campaigns, catwalks and editorials, both in front of and behind the lens. But the recent resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement and heightened social awareness of discrimination and underrepresentation might just be the catalyst needed to see the 2020’s as a true Decade of Diversity.
Lead by prominent Supermodel and trans activist Teddy Quinlivan, we cover the rise of inclusion through the stories of leading body positive supermodel Paloma Elsesser and trans beauty icon Valentina Sampaio. We also cover racial representation in fashion with current day superstars Alton Mason, Adut Akech, Alpha Dia, Adonis Bosso, Zhengyang Zhang, Tae Min Park, and the founders of the ‘Diversity Coalition’.
